Sayonara, Spambots! 🔗
Traditionally, I have not allowed comments on my blog because the vast majority of comments come from "spambots" automatically posting ads or links. Moderating comments prevents this spam from being published, but is a pain -- especially when I start getting dozens of comments a day -- which recently happened again after re-enabling comments on recent posts.There's an easy fix, which I just spent two minutes implementing. To post a comment, you will now need to follow an extra instruction that is trivial for a human but should totally trip up spambots. This makes my WordPress installation (the software that powers my blog) a tiny bit different than the thousands of other default WordPress installations out there. Since my blog is just a tiny little blog, I doubt the spambots will evolve to jump past the hole I just dug in front of them. But I have complete faith that you, a highly intelligent reader of my blog (which goes without saying, right?) will have no problem.
